Retirement remains a distant concept for Fernando Alonso. Currently navigating his 23rd season, the 44 year old Spanish driver is showing no signs of easing off the throttle.
Armed with a multi-year contract under Aston Martin signed in 2024, Alonso remains as fiercely dedicated to the sport as the day he debuted in 2001.
For Alonso racing is not just a career; it is a lifelong devotion. Speaking at the Grand Prix Historique de Monaco, the driver reaffirmed his unwavering passion for the sport. “I love what I do. I love racing…Time will tell. I will feel it. At the moment, I don’t feel it is that time yet. I feel competitive, I feel motivated, I feel happy when I drive. So, yeah, hopefully not the last season”, he stated.
A legacy built on defying the odds
To understand Alonso’s enduring value, one must look back to the era when Michael Schumacher and Ferrari seemed invincible. It was a young, fiercely determined Alonso who broke that absolute dominance, securing back to back World Championships with Renault. That achievement alone cemented his status as a generational talent.
