The 2026 season has been a positive start for Sir Lewis Hamilton as he has scored points in every race so far and has recently scored his first podium in Canada. Media outlets placed doubts countless times on the 41-year-old’s ability. The seven-time world champion is reborn at Ferrari.
As the 2026 season commenced, the topic of the new regulations was on everyone’s lips. In his final years with Mercedes, Hamilton was visibly frustrated with the car, particularly regarding its porposing and lack of competitiveness. This situation echoed Mercedes’ struggles in 2014, where they struggled to get to grips with the V6 turbo hybrids and in 2017 with the overhaul in aerodynamics.
After suffering a painful loss in 2021 against Max Verstappen, the Briton’s 2022 run was his first-ever winless campaign. Despite this, he remained a consistent podium contender, demonstrating his enduring passion and competitive spirit at his age.
He made headlines before the 2024 season kicked off when he signed a multi-year contract with the Italian team. Though things looked promising during testing in Maranello, Hamilton only managed to secure a sprint win in China.
Hamilton was quoted as saying he was “rediscovering myself” over the winter break, and his race results can exemplify that. The SF-26 car has provided Hamilton fans with a driver that they once knew.
His resurgence is reminiscent of MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi. Both athletes entered their respective sports with excellent machinery that would help them secure World Championships. There would then be a blip in performance when faced with a competitive teammate. They would then bounce back and prove their abilities despite their age.
Whilst finishing second in Canada, the Briton needs to keep a level head and continue to achieve solid and consistent race results. The Ferrari car has the potential to challenge the Mercedes, which has taken this season by storm with Hamilton’s replacement, Kimi Antonelli, leading the Driver Championship.
Talk of a title challenge are quite ambitious, but it is safe to say that Ferrari has revived and reborn Lewis Hamilton.
