Alpine drivers exploring options…

By Joe Murphy

Whilst Pierre Gasly and Estaban Ocon seem to be backing the team at this moment in time, rumours have now began to circulate that the pair are looking at alternative options, should the constructor not be able to improve it’s current situation.

When new backers were announcement around the summer of 2023, the news of multiple staff exits began to be leaked to various media outlets. Such a substantial change across the garage was bound to have an effect, and so it has proved. So far in 2024, Alpine are pointless and have only managed to just about sneak into Q2 at best, although they have never looked like getting any points.

In fact, Gasly in particular has often been the slowest car out on the track, with his fellow compatriot not fairing much better. Fans and pundits alike thought Haas would be the ones bringing up the field, but it turns out that Alpine were worse than anyone feared.

Therefore, it is only natural to consider the future of the drivers who have both won Formula 1 races in their career. Estaban Ocon has a long-standing relationship with Mercedes boss Toto Wolff so that is a potential avenue there. As for Gasly, he never truly burnt his bridges with Alpha Tauri. With Daniel Ricciardo’s future uncertain at best, could there be room for a sensational return for Gasly? Possibly.
