In a Wheel2Wheel exclusive, it has been confirmed that Carlos Sainz and Mercedes have reached an agreement on a multi-year contract, commencing from the 2025 season.
The Spaniard will partner George Russell from next season’s Australian Grand Prix opening race, completing a straight swap with Lewis Hamilton already heading the other way.
Our sources in Italy confirm that Sainz has accepted the offer made to him by Toto Wolff and his company and that an announcement is imminent.
This is not only an exciting move for Sainz who will become the first driver to race for Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes in a single career, it is also a relief that F1 isn’t losing such a talented driver, especially after the positive start to the season he has made, including, but not exclusively made up by, his win in Australia last month.
