Ecclestone: Verstappen is better than Hamilton!

By Joe Murphy

Former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has praised World Champion Max Verstappen, believing the Dutchman would win in, even if he drove a Mercedes, Ferrari or McLaren. Hence, he insinuated that he is a better driver than Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc and, perhaps more notably, seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton.

Everybody knows that Max enjoyed a dominant F1 season last year, winning 19 out of the 21 races staged. The campaign set all kind of records, but Ecclestone attempted to sway away of the perspective that it was down to the car, instead praising the man behind the wheel. However, to claim that Verstappen would win in cars that failed to win any race last season other than Singapore, is certainly a bold statement.

“You could put him in a McLaren, and probably a Ferrari or a Mercedes, and he would still win.”

Does this then bring into question the standard of the opposition? To claim that Max would win in a car that a seven time champion of the sport couldn’t, appears to place Max above Lewis in terms of outright talent. Fans of both men will have differing perspectives on this matter, the comments are guaranteed to tickle a few feathers at the very least.
