The future of Yuki Tsunoda – Does he have one in F1?

By Zoe Richards

Yuki Tsunoda had a promising racing career just a few short years ago, but now his future in the motorsports world remains somewhat uncertain.
He climbed very quickly through the ranks and into Formula One, and was certainly the one to watch.
But as every F1 fan knows, motorsport can be brutal, and Tsunoda certainly had his fair share of struggles.

Here’s what we know for now…

Tsunoda was promoted to Red Bull Racing from its sister team three races into the 2025 Formula One season. He replaced the underperforming Liam Lawson and finally had his chance with one of the biggest teams on the grid.

Yuki endured a nightmare campaign alongside the seemingly formidable Max Verstappen, and was demoted at the end of the 2025 season.

Isack Hadjar is taking Tsunoda’s place in this years season, and F2 driver Arvid Lindblad is stepping up to partner Liam Lawson at the sister team Racing Bulls.

Yuki has now being named as both a test and reserve role for the Red Bull and Racing Bulls teams, and has stated himself that he will “work harder than ever” to prove himself and his abilities.

As of February 2026, the news of his future in motorsports is unclear. He may not have an official place on the grid, but he is still very much in the conversation.
At only 25 years old, he is certainly not done. As a reserve driver he will be building on his knowledge set and speculation in the paddock claims that it is entirely possible he will be back in F1 before we know it.

Tsunoda could be first in line if in the middle of the season, a team was to need a driver in quick succession.

Sure, he may not be on the grid this season, but if his (and many others) story teaches us anything thus far it is that nothing is final – especially in Formula One!
