F1 Constructors Championship Update
McLaren are world champions, but the battle for P2 in the Constructor’s championship is still on.
With 6 races, including 3 sprint weekends, to go, here is how it stands ahead of the US Grand Prix.
- Mercedes-325
- Ferrari-298
- Red Bull-290
Second place would not only be a point of pride among these teams, but it would also offer more prize money. Last year, second-placed Ferrari earned $124 million in prize money.
Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull have all struggled to challenge McLaren this season. In particular, Lewis Hamilton, Yuki Tsunoda and Kimi Antonelli have endured tough seasons with inconsistent results.
Despite not winning any races this season, Ferrari held second place at the summer break; however, five consecutive races without a podium finish have caused them to drop below Mercedes in the standings.
Mercedes were able to take advantage of this, with George Russell’s strong run of results and Kimi Antonelli returning to regular points finishes.
Although Max Verstappen is closest to the McLarens in the championship standings, Red Bull has consistently ranked fourth this season because of Yuki Tsunoda’s struggles with the car. Fourth place would be Red Bull’s worst result in a decade.
The team with the two most consistent drivers in the closing rounds of the season will likely finish on top. As Red Bull proved last year and this year, a team struggles for a good championship position if only one driver can score points.
