*tbc – perhaps as soon as this weekend!

How McLaren can win the championship in Baku…

McLaren’s dominant season has put them on the brink of back-to-back Constructors’ Championships despite a third of the season to go.

The Woking outfit can seal their inevitable championship if three things happen at this weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

McLaren outscores Ferrari by 9 points or more.
Mercedes DON’T outscore McLaren by 12 points or more.
Red Bull DON’T outscore McLaren by 33 points or more.

To simplify how McLaren can win the championship, if their cars finish 1-2 or 1-3 in Baku, they automatically win the championship regardless of the others.

Given McLaren’s recent form compared to their rivals, it is likely to happen this weekend. An incredible achievement with 7 races to go.

If not, they will have to wait until the Singapore Grand Prix in 2 weeks’ time. Unless there is a bizarre set of results, McLaren will be almost guaranteed to win the championship at the end of the Singapore race.

The team has amassed 617 points, which is more than double the points of any other team. The team’s two drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, are really only focused on their battle for the Driver’s championship.

McLaren’s three main rivals, Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull, have struggled with car development and having two cars consistently in the points. This has allowed McLaren to open up such a huge lead.
