Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc will miss the first practice session (FP1) of the Austrian Grand Prix, with rookies Alex Dunne and Dino Beganovic taking their places behind the wheel.
Alex Dunne, a 19-year-old Formula 2 driver and member of McLaren’s junior program, will drive the MCL39 car during FP1. Currently leading the F2 championship standings, Dunne will be providing feedback to help with the car’s setup. This opportunity is part of the FIA’s rule requiring teams to give rookies at least four FP1 sessions during the 2025 season. This follows Lando Norris’ dramatic late crash in Canada where he collided with his teammate and current Championship leader; Oscar Piastri.
Meanwhile, Dino Beganovic will replace Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari SF-25 during FP1. This move is seen as a development opportunity for young drivers, allowing them to gain experience and provide valuable feedback to their teams.
Russell and Verstappen still at WAR
The rookie drivers’ participation in FP1 is an exciting development for Formula 1 fans, offering a glimpse into the future of the sport. With their talent and dedication, drivers like Dunne and Beganovic could be the stars of tomorrow.
