With McLaren seemingly ALREADY Constructors Champions, what does this mean for everyone else?

By Joe Murphy

McLaren’s dominance in the 2025 Formula 1 constructors’ championship is glaringly evident, boasting an insurmountable 150-point lead over Ferrari with just six races remaining. As of the latest standings, McLaren sits pretty on 362 points, while Ferrari trails far behind on 165 points. Red Bull and Mercedes lag even further back, on 144 and 149 points respectively.

This commanding lead cements McLaren’s status as the team to beat this season. Their impressive performance can be attributed to a potent mix of exceptional car design, astute strategic decisions, and outstanding driver skill. Winning all but a couple of races, McLaren’s consistency and speed have been unmatched.

For Ferrari to mount a comeback, they’ll need to drastically overhaul their car, focusing on improving aerodynamics and engine performance. Specifically, they must reduce their average qualifying deficit to McLaren. Ferrari’s tyre management also requires significant refinement to match McLaren’s pace.

Red Bull, meanwhile, faces a monumental task. They need to revamp their aerodynamic package and develop a more efficient engine to close the gap. With an average performance deficit nearly half a second less than McLaren, Red Bull must find substantial upgrades to challenge McLaren. Having only one driver challenging is also holding them back, but that’s been a lingering problem for years.

Mercedes, having struggled with car handling, requires a major redesign of their suspension and chassis to enhance stability. With an average deficit of 0.9 seconds per lap, Mercedes must deliver a step-change in performance to compete.

Hamilton Angry at FIA

With McLaren’s current form, they’re likely to cruise to the championship title, leaving their rivals to battle for distant podiums. The focus will inevitably shift to the drivers’ championship and individual race wins. One thing is clear: McLaren’s dominance this season has been a masterclass in Formula 1.
