Piastri on top again in sole Miami practice session

By Ben Langley

Oscar Piastri finished top of the timesheets in the only practice session of the Miami Grand Prix, with the Sprint featuring this weekend.

The McLaren driver finished over three tenths clear of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, with Max Verstappen four tenths off in third. Piastri’s teammate Lando Norris looked set to join the Australian at the top, but Ollie Bearman’s late shunt prevented Norris from completing his flying lap on the soft tyres.

Williams are sitting pretty with Carlos Sainz and Alexander Albon in fourth and fifth respectively. Isack Hadjar looks quick once again as he finished the session in sixth, with the Racing Bulls sporting a pink livery for the Miami weekend.

The two Mercedes drivers of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli sat at the top early on in the session, but ended up lower down the order as neither set a fast lap on the softs

Looking further down, Lewis Hamilton struggled as he finished 13th and over a second off the pace of Leclerc. Alpine’s Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan finished in a lowly 17th and 19th respectively, with Lance Stroll slowest of all.

After the one and only practice session, it is now competitive running for the rest of the weekend. Sprint qualifying is coming up later.
