As a firm neutral when it comes to the results of the Formula 1 World Championship in 2024, I am glad it has been a close run battle. Having multiple winners is something we haven’t really seen in F1 over the last decade and it’s the closest battle Verstappen has had since 2021.
Lando ran him close, Ferrari have done superbly and Oscar Piastri will no doubt have his moment. But there’s no denying Max deserves his fourth in a row.
The Brazil drive demonstrated this. He was in a league of his own. Whilst former World champions struggled, race winners made mistakes, Max came from 17th to win comfortably. He was the best driver on the day, by far.
Let’s be honest, the start of the season hurt Norris. Verstappen was so far ahead, it was a mountain too big to climb. Next season, any of the McLaren or Ferrari pair have a shot, as the gap between constructors is practically non-existent.
Verstappen though is on the brink with a car that is the third fastest in the grid. Don’t forget how experienced Sergio Perez is and look how badly he’s struggling with the sister Red Bull car, no matter how different his side of the garage may be.
Nobody likes seeing a monopoly over F1. The role of Team RB needs looking at for sure. They have helped Verstappen. But he’s still been the best racer this year.
