Leclerc Leads Celebrations in Monza for Second Time!

By Joe Murphy

The 2024 Italian Grand Prix, held at Monza, was an exciting race filled with strategic battles and impressive performances up and down the grid. Charles Leclerc clinched his second Formula 1 victory at Monza for Ferrari, much to the delight of the home crowd.

Leclerc’s win was largely due to a one-stop strategy, which allowed him to maintain his lead despite the pressure from the two-stopping McLarens of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, who finished in second and third place, respectively.

Carlos Sainz, in his final Italian Grand Prix for Ferrari, finished fourth after also opting for a one-stop strategy. Lewis Hamilton, driving for Mercedes, rounded out the top five. The race saw Max Verstappen of Red Bull finishing sixth, followed by George Russell in seventh, and Sergio Perez in eighth. Alex Albon of Williams and Kevin Magnussen of Haas completed the top ten, with Magnussen incurring a 10-second penalty during the race. Subsequently, Magnussen was banned outright from the next race in Azerbaijan due to occurring too many points on his FIA record.

The race also featured some notable incidents, such as a close call between George Russell and Sergio Perez, where Russell detailed a near “airborne” moment with Perez during the race. A strong debut for Williams’ new driver Colapinto, who gained 6 places and only just finished outside the points, in 12th position.
