Huawei releases their new Matebook X Pro, for significantly cheaper than the newest Apple Macbook. Is this a cheaper alternative, or, a straight copy?
Apples most resent Macbook release was in November of 2023, where they released the Macbook Pro with the M3 Chip. This can sell for over $4000, a hefty price for the average consumer. However, the Huawei Matebook X Pro, released June of 2024, is just over $1000.
The Apple Macbook has been said to perform several tasks at record breaking speed in comparison to earlier models. According to Apple, the battery life is almost 4 hours longer than the last model, with signifcant improvements to processing power, totalling to 22 hours of usage. The Huawei Matebook X Pro can last 8 hours on average according to Forbes.
The processing speeds of each laptops has been tested by external sources aswell. According to UserBenchmark a performance checking website, the Matebook has a 49% Desktop performance, with a shocking 8% workstation performance. The Macbook however, has a 60% Desktop performance, an 11% increase compared the the Matebook, and a, similarly shocking, 9% workstation performance. Ultimately, based on cost, and performance, it could potentially be argued that Huawei is providing a reasonable price for performance, whilst Apple overcharges. However, with the question of weather Huawei is copying Apple, it is clear that they are not. A vast majority of parts are different.
