It you thought Formula 1 had too many races already, then this news might not be for you. Despite the calendar boasting an already unprecedented number of races per season, the FIA could be looking to add another. As of the time of writing, the South Korean city of Incheon has officially submitted a letter of intent to Formula 1 about hosting a new race on a street circuit to coincide with the regulation changes set for 2026.
The mayor of Incheon, Yoo Jeong-bok, met F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali at the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka over the weekend to deliver the letter by hand. Quite where this race fits in on the calendar would remain to be seen, but as F1 was just in Japan and heads to China, you’d think this time if year would work for all parties.
The Incheon district, close to the Korean capital of Seoul, is keen to host a street race with a 2027 or 2026 start date. Set ups and checks will naturally take time, as will contract negotiations, hence a delayed draft time.
The race would be known as the F1 Incheon Grand Prix, as opposed to the Korean Grand Prix which took place from 2010-2013 at a ready-made circuit in Yeongam. F1 is yet to comment in an official capacity although it is understood that scheduling and finances are not thought to be a major issue. Would you like to see a Grand Prix head to Korea?
