F1 Champion says Hamilton ‘not right’ for Ferrari…

By Joe Murphy

Alan Jones, who won the 1980 Formula 1 World Championship, has suggested that he thinks Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari in 2025, is not the best for either party.

The Australian was speaking mere days before cars take to the track in the land down under. In fact, drivers have already conducted their track walks and preparation for the third Grand Prix of the season.

After an underwhelming start to the 2924 season which has seen both Mercedes and Hamilton struggle, Jones said the seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton needs to “pull his finger out”, especially considering there is already a gap to his teammate George Russell.

The veteran British driver could have already checked out, with David Coulthard being among those to have suggested Hamilton’s head may already be with the Italian team. There was insinuation from Jones that Ferrari may have signed Hamilton primarily for the subsequent brand value increase, something that Ferrari obviously deny.

Jones went on to say; “I really don’t think it was [the right move for Ferrari] to be honest. In terms of increasing their share price, yes. But I just don’t think he is going to be the .” This take, albeit a tad premature, carries slightly more weight when both Carlos Sainz and even Oliver Bearman have impressed more than Lewis himself.

What do you think of Jones’ comments? Fair or over the top? Have your say below…
