Verstappen wins dull opener as Bahrain night race fails to shine…

By Joe Murphy

Max Verstappen won the Bahrain Grand Prix, taking home the maximum 26 point haul after leading every single lap whilst also claiming the extra point for the fastest lap of the race around the Bahrain International Circuit.

Sergio Perez followed a mere twenty seconds behind as Carlos Sainz outperformed his teammate to claim the final position on the podium.

In a largely action-lacking race on Saturday, the only suggestion of contact between anyone was when Hulkenberg and Stroll seemed to come together into turn one, with the latter performing wonders to achieve a point for his team.

McLaren could only pressure Russell’s Mercedes in the middle of the points whilst Lewis Hamilton ran out of laps to catch the pair ahead.

Alpine capped a miserable weekend in what could be an ominous sign whilst RB were also slightly below expectations. It was a positive yet pointless Grand Prix for Haas who actually managed to challenge for the power points positions. It might have been even better for Nico Hulkenberg had he avoided the aforementioned contact with Stroll at the start of the race.

Much to ponder as we head to Saudi Arabia for put next Saturday night race in a weeks time. At the forefront of most people’s minds will be can anyone get near to Verstappen?
