Sensationally, Daniel Ricciardo topped the first session of the 2024 campaign, setting a time of 1:32:869 that could not be beaten by anyone. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri completed the top three, with Ricciardo’s teammate Yuki Tsunoda next up in fourth place.
In the session, drivers struggled to get the mots out of their car. Max Verstappen couldn’t even get in the 1:32’s, complain that the car feels a lot worse than he felt last week. It appears changes to the car haven’t worked the way originally though.
Haas sat at the back, as expected, with Alpine on the penultimate row in a result that will both surprise and disappoint in equal measures for the French constructor.
The midfield battles were all over the place. All the other teams were within close proximity of each other and of course, these results need to be taken with at least a lunch of salt ahead of the upcoming qualifying and race sessions. Some cars may have been holding back and working on certain improvements, but nevertheless, it is an impressive start for the newly rebranded RB team.
