Mercedes send message with FP2 domination…

By Joe Murphy

Lewis Hamilton led George Russell in the final action from the Bahrain International Circuit on a hectic and surprisingly mixed Thursday.

Both Ferrari drivers, Alonso’s Aston Martin and Oscar Piastri’s McLaren fought narrowly to place below in what looks set to be a tantilsing battle for those higher up points positions. Haas found some more pace to not be isolated at the back as seen in FP1, Alpine struggled again unable to get above 16th whereas Red Bull yet again were unable to muster a lap to match the expectation of the car.

Verstappen yet again out qualified Perez as RB, who had done so well in the session previously, we’re back to the lower midfield positions, placing about where you’d expect them to be at this stage.

Qirh qualifying less than a day away, there is still some questions that need to be answered. Mainly, where has Red Bull’s pace gone? Or is it a case of them hiding something until it really matters? Moreover, is there anything Sauber can do to challenge the points positions on Saturday or will they be stuck down with Alpine.

What is true is that smiles were aplenty in the Mercedes garage as Thursday afternoon turned to Thursday evening. Long may it continue for fans of the Silver Arrows.
