K-Mag should move back to McLaren!

By Joe Murphy

Wheel2Wheel Reports have written about scenarios where Danish F1 driver Kevin Magnussen could theoretically end up at one of Red Bull or Mercedes. In all honesty, beyond this year, nobody knows where the man who races under car number 20 will be racing beyond next year. He could remain at Haas, could leave F1 again or find himself with another team. But humour me a moment, McLaren makes sense.

It’s no secret that Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris have signed recent multi-year deals in F1 with the orange team. The team see the long-term future of the constructor as thr Brit and the Aussie.

However, whilst Lando in particular maintains be does not regret this career choice, there’s no doubting that the timing of Lewis Hamilton’s departure from Mercedes to Ferrari came at a terrible time for him. The team is a known admirer of the young British driver and definitely will still be eyeing him up to be Hamilton’s replacement. Now, if they want Lando Norris to be driving a Silver Arrow, they’ll have to buy out his contract, something not beyond the realms of possibility.

If Lando is to depart McLaren, Oscar will need a teammate. So, I ask you, why not Magnussen? It would be a fitting last stint to a career that has deserved a faster car for a long while. Magnussen would be a steady hand and offer some veteran experience that would surely only benefit someone like Piastri. It’s also obvious that Magnussen is someone who would relish the opportunity for a career renaissance and being our of contract makes this even easier. Whilst it’s understandable this move depends on external factors, it certainly isn’t out of the realms of possibility.

There is also the fact that there aren’t too many more options out there all things considered. The only other option that spring to mind is Sergio Perez, but that in itself relies on other moves involving Red Bull. With over half the grid officially out of contract in literally nine months time, it’s going to be a fascinating experience seeing where everybody ends up.
