The move that makes sense – Joe Murphy
It is the move that makes the most sense for all parties. Valtteri Bottas back to Mercedes would suit everybody. The Finn is out of contract with the team formerly known as Alfa Romeo at the end of the season.
Mercedes would be getting someone they know and, crucially, someone happy to play second fiddle to George Russell. Moreover, Sauber may look to move Bottas on regardless when they rebrand thanks to the introduction of Audi into the sport.
Who replaces Valtteri? Why Daniel Ricciardo of course. Us at Wheel2Wheel Reports can’t see the Aussie ever making his way to Red Bull. Therefore, the marquee name at a newly rejuvenated Ausi would be perfect in 2025, allowing Liam Lawson to move to Alpha Tauri in the near future.
This does, however, mean Carlos Sainz would be without a seat in this hypothetical scenario. However, a move to Williams to replace the outgoing Logan Sergeant is surely more than feasible. Otherwise he could return to Renault under it’s different guise to replace Estaban Ocon if he is to make the move to join Toto Wolff and Co at the Silver Arrows.
