Magnussen to Red Bull in 2025 under consideration…

By Joe Murphy

This morning, Wheel2Wheel Reports released a piece about Kevin Magnussen’s potential move to Mercedes at the end of the 2024 season, available to read here: Magnussen to Mercedes.

However, there is genuine belief that he could actually be a better fit at bitter rivals Red Bull. Let me explain…

In a hypothetical world where Mercedes sign Alex Albon to replace Lewis Hamilton, a move deemed likely with UK bookmakers, then this fills one seat yet frees up another. Red Bull are also considering the future of Sergio Perez, with Daniel Ricciardo and Albon himself being considered options.

But why not move for Magnussen? He would be available and also willing to play secondary driver to Max Verstappen. He also has the experience of Checo at a fraction of the cost. There is also the possibility that he could get more out of the car than his Mexican counterpart. This could then open the door for Mick Schumacher to return for a second bite at the cherry with the American constructor.

Should Albon choose to sign with Toto Wolff and Co, then Red Bull are left with Sainz or Ricciardo, two drivers who didn’t work out last time they were with the team. So why not try something new?

Also, any potential Andretti deal could see drivers such as the aforementioned Ricciardo taken away as an option regardless. A doubtful move, but surely something that has to be pondered. In fairness, the same could easily be applied to Nico Hulkenberg, should Red Bull chief execs go down this route. The benefit the Dane brings is he is only 31 years old, five years younger than his teammate. So it could be a better longer term investment.
