In a potentially ominous declaration of their intent, McLaren have made direct reference to their Triple Crown legacy when they became the first team to unveil their 2024 Formula 1 livery yesterday afternoon.
Quite whether the team can navigate their way to a surprise title challenge remains to be seen. But the meaning behind the colours insinuates that they certainly believe there is no better time than the present to get back to championship winning ways by besting Red Bull and others.
Gone are the blue stripes from the 2023 McLaren. Instead this year is strictly orange and black in a car livery that does look absolutely magnificent. The MCL38 does set a standard that the other cars now need to follow when they are unveiled to the world at different points over the next month or so.
The name of the chassis is a clear look to the future. Last year’s paid homage to the 60th anniversary of the constructor but now they are back on track in terms of developing a car to challenge in the not so distant future.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown spoke during the unveiling: “We’re delighted to launch our 2024 Formula 1 livery ahead of the new season. The design looks awesome, and I can’t wait to go racing and see it come to life on track next month.” Well, I for one certainly can’t wait to see how this takes to the track when testing begins very soon!
