South Africa? Egypt? Perhaps even somewhere such as Uganda. All of these options are said to be on the table. FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem today reinforced just how important the African market is to the sport. Calls for a race have arguably never been stronger and it appears talks are in the works to make this happen in some form or another.
With the South Africa Grand Prix return rumours seemingly persistent, thoughts of a big deal have been circulating. Perhaps F1 may be a step too far but Formula 2 could most definitely visit the continent. The money F1 brings would surely prize out Africa, but a future event here the FIA decide not to expect Middle Eastern or American levels of money, then yeah, why not?
It is not currently expected that a change to the calendar involving the only untouched liveable continent is to come to fruition. The earliest would be 2026 due to all the time it takes. But it is certainly something that could rear it’s head again in the not too distant future. Drivers and Teams alike have demonstrated their support, over the past couple of seasons in particular.
