Former Brazilian Formula One driver; Wilson Fittipaldi Jr. has suffered a cardiac arrest, his wife has revealed. The former F1 racer competed in 38 races in his career.

The brother of two-time F1 world champion Emerson Fittipaldi was celebrating his 80th birthday at the time when during a meal, a choking episode lead to a heart attack taking place at the family event. Luckily, it has now been confirmed on social media that he is in a stable condition now in hospital.

“He was resuscitated and is now sedated and intubated, we are waiting for him to wake up, he has a difficult post-surgical history of returning post-sedative, one day at a time, let’s wait” reported his partner.

Fittipaldi Jr.’s son, former CART, Formula One and NASCAR driver Christian Fittipaldi, joined him whilst receiving medical care.

The name Fittipaldi is up there with one of the most prestigious in the sport’s history. Not only was he a racer, but he also introduced the first and only Brazilian F team in 1974, known as Fittipaldi-Copersucar, which lined up on the grid for 7 years from 1975-82, racing against the likes of Lauda, Hunt and others.
