“He’s a smart guy” – Verstappen names Title Challenger!

By Joe Murphy

Whether or not you are indeed a fan of Max Verstappen, there is little debate that the sport could do with a more competitive element in 2024. There is also no doubt that at some point, somebody will oust Max as the World Champion. The questions are simply who and when?

In a recent interview, when questioned who he would pick to drive for his own Formula 1 team, the reigning world champion named McLaren team mates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

“I would take Lando and Oscar… the McLaren pairing. Both are good.”

He went on to praise Lando specifically, but openly stated that Oscar has potentially the brightest future in the sport, labelling him as his closest challenger ahead of the 2024 season;

“Lando is just a little older than Oscar. I think Oscar is a fast rookie. He still has things to learn, such as improving his racing pace. But from what I see, he’s a smart guy. He will win his races.”

The future is these two drivers are an interesting discussion. You’d be excused for taking the stance that McLaren need to start winning races regularly in order to retain their talented pair, particularly Lando Norris. Otherwise they could risk losing him to any other top team. Regarding Oscar, he took the fight to Max at Austria and Qatar, evening winning a sprint race at the latter venue.
