Ricciardo Red Bull move confirmed…?

Later in 2024, it’s plausible that we could see Daniel Ricciardo back in a Red Bull, with Sergio Perez lined up to go the other way.

The Mexican driver came under intense scrutiny despite coming second in the Driver’s Championship standings in 2023, only behind teammate Max Verstappen.

The concern for the higher ups at Red Bull was the margin between the two drivers. Whilst Perez is certainly capable, he only outperformed the Dutchman at a couple of venues and often found his car behind the likes of Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton.

Red Bull were so far ahead in terms of points, it didn’t really matter. But if Ferrari and Mercedes were to close the gap over the winter break, the Constructors Champions would need that second car up front to help with tactics.

If Perez is to slip up and not start the season strongly, there’s a chance that the team look towards their sister car, with former employee Ricciardo being the obvious alternative. He’s experienced like Checo, proven and would definitely be up for the transfer. As for Checo, the only way he would then be able to remain on the grid would most likely be a move down the grid.

Pressure is on for the start of the campaign for all drivers involved.
