In a huge twist, Red Bull chief Helmut Marko has revealed who would be the “perfect” team-mate for Max Verstappen.
Verstappen has dominated the last two Championships and looks unstoppable on his way to a third successive title. At the Belgian Grand Prix, he won the race from 6th, beating his teammate to victory. Perez finished well but has come under huge pressure with his contract set to expire at the end of next season.
Rumours have been swirling regarding who will be Verstappen’s partner next, especially since the unexpected return of Daniel Ricciardo to the grid last month.
What won’t help this pressure is Red Bull boss Mark’s comments as he claimed that Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg would be the “perfect” team-mate for Verstappen.
The 80-year-old was quoted saying: “That’s the right thought. The two would be the perfect qualifying and race combination.”
Nevertheless, Marko dismissed the prospect of dropping Perez ahead of 2024, acknowledging the contract in place for next year.
