BREAKING NEWS Verstappen Pole at RISK as FIA investigation underway!

By Joe Murphy

The Australian Grand Prix takes place this weekend with the third round of the season as eagerly anticipated as ever before. Now that false headline has got your attention on this wonderful April Fools day, let’s take a look as to what is set to go down (under).

Verstappen uncatchable

Max Verstappen is the heavy favourite to take the win after claiming his second Pole Position of the season. With the sister Red Bull 19 cars away, it should be relatively easy work for the Dutchman. Mercedes have to get the move done early, but don’t stand much of a chance.

Mercedes v Aston for second

Russell, Hamilton and Alonso are set to battle it out behind the world champion. Mercedes edged it in terms of pace Saturday, but race degradation is set to play a part and that could bring the Spaniard into play, in place of one of the Silver Arrows. Which one? It all depends on if Lewis gets George at the start.

Improvement for McLaren

It isn’t hard to improve on the last outings disaster, but McLaren may have an outside chance of points this Sunday. Lando put his car into 13th and within reach of potential points. Anything remotely near the top ten would be something for the Orange team to build upon.

And what about Ferrari?

The fourth fastest team, Ferrari don’t look like replicating their former success at Albert Park. A winner here less than a year ago, Leclerc and Sainz will more than likely be settling in around Lance Stroll in 6th and 7th. Anything more than this will be a good result for the team hoping to stay in touch with Aston Martin, let alone Red Bull.

Promising start for Pierre

Pierre Gasly had arguably his strongest performance yet for Alpine, managing to put in a strong showing for the French Constructor. Being in and out of the points is the most likely position for the team this season, so anything Gasly can do to get his car into scoring positions will do wonders for both him and his team. He also needs to put pressure on teammate Ocon too, or risk being cemented in as the second driver.
