Shock as Ricciardo is GONE!

By Joe Murphy

Daniel Ricciardo will leave McLaren at the end of the 2022 season, it has been reported.

It had been long rumoured that the Australian would depart the constructor, but rumours seriously started to circulate when Alpine’s Reserve Driver, Oscar Piastri, rejected a call up from the team.

With Ricciardo now officially leaving after two years with the team, attention turns to where the Australian will be racing next year, if he is at all. Will he return to Alpine to fill the slot left by a departing Fernando Alonso? Don’t forget he raced with the team prior to joining McLaren. What about Haas? Mick Schumacher has no guarantees beyond December and the American outfit could turn to a veteran like Danny Ricc. The only other option could be Williams alongside Alex Albon, although this seems hard to contemplate.

Moreover, it is now surely a matter of time before Piastri is announced alongside Lando Norris, for the other orange car in 2023. However, things could get messy between the parties involved in terms of compensation settlements. Perhaps we will get more answers over the course of the weekend as F1 returns to action in Belgium.
