The merry-go-round for the 2023 Formula 1 grid has officially begun. Since Sebastian Vettel announced his retirement for the end of this current campaign, rumours have been swelling as to which person would take his place.
That question, it seems, has been answered, by a man in his forties. Yes, Aston Martin are replacing a former World Champion with another as Spaniard Fernando Alonso is making the switch to the green team. You’d imagine Estaban Ocon and Lance Stroll will keep their respective seats, meaning the vacancy now lies with the French team. For Alonso, it means an extended stay in the sport.
Odds on favourite is young Oscar Piastri who has been overdue for a call up to the major brand for a little while now. Whilst Nico Hulkenburg, Nyck de Vries and even Jamie Chadwick remain outside options, you’d be hard pressed to find a better fit than the young Australian. This could also be good news for Nicolas Latifi, with the man rumoured to replace him now heading in a different direction.
