Murphy Meets Eddie Jordan

By Joe Murphy

During my time at the Grand Prix Ball on Wednesday 29th June, I managed to have a brief catch up with F1 Pundit and Legend, Eddie Jordan. The 74 year old Irishman is many things, but drummer in a band was not one that many people may know. He performed with his band, The Robbers, at around midnight at The Hurlingham Club.

When we spoke, he said he was happy to be at the event and was naturally looking forward to this years British Grand Prix. He also spoke of his fondness for current driver Lewis Hamilton, something which is especially important considering everything that is happening in the news at the moment between the seven time champion and former world champion Nelson Piquet. Like other personalities such as Jenson Button and Martin Brundle have done, Jordan also gave his support to the British driver.

He also made a special point about long time friend, the late Niki Lauda. He preached about the way of the world and even said to me that sometimes we need to tell people we care about them, before it is too late. He even went as far as to dedicate a song to the Austrian who was sadly taken from the Formula 1 world, just over three years ago. Him and his band performed a rendition of U2’s “With or Without You”, in remembrance. This was undoubtedly the most emotional moment of the evening. Please see below for just a clip of this performance.

The entire set, which lasted around 30 minutes, went down a storm with the onlooking crowd of around 600. Before parting the event, he stayed and posed for photographs with some of the attendees as he said goodbye.
