Mercedes driver and seven time World Champion Lewis Hamilton could potentially be forced to miss next weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix, after citing back pain during the second half of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The British British driver, who ended up fourth after managing the pain to finish Sunday’s race, was simply “praying” for the Grand Prix to end.
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff confirmed what looked evident when Lewis himself was pictured struggling to get out of the Silver Arrow. He even went as far to say he was a “doubt” for next weeks Grand Prix. The event, which was won by rival Max Verstappen, saw Hamilton’s car bobble so much that Lewis was left almost unable to move following the 51 laps behind the wheel.

With such an issue not expected to be changed within a week, there is a danger the man misses and event of which he has enjoyed immense success in previous years. Following a medical visit, we await results of Hamilton’s status and whether or not he is fit to compete. If not, Mercedes may turn to reserve driver Nick de Vries or even Estaban Ocon, who would subsequently need replacing at Alpine for the next race.
