No! Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel is set to miss the second round of the Formula 1 season because of Covid protocols. The Aston Martin team confirmed that he is yet to travel Saudi Arabia for this weekend’s Grand Prix as a result of a failure to produce a negative test result.
The German missed last week’s Bahrain Grand Prix after testing positive and was replaced with Nico Hulkenberg for the weekend. He is yet to return a negative result that would allow him to travel, let alone race in Jeddah in the second installment of the 2022 season.
Hulkenberg, Aston Martin’s reserve driver, stood in for Vettel in the season-opening race in Bahrain last week and eventually ended up in 17th in what was a difficult week for the team. Aston Martin themselves had given Vettel until Friday to return a negative test otherwise they had to opt for his German counterpart. And so the circumstances were so, and Nico will fill in again alongside Lance Stroll for this weekend’s Practice, Qualifying and Race sessions.
