Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel has tested positive for Covid-19 and will miss the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix.
The new broke early Thursday morning that the four-time world champion will be replaced by fellow German Nico Hulkenberg, who will be in the car from the Friday practice sessions onwards.
Whilst this is desperately unlucky timing for Vettel, there is a positive side to this story. It will be Nico Hulkenberg’s first Grand Prix since 2020 when he featured in the Eifel GP. After debutising for Lance Stroll in the Racing Point car, after the Canadian tested positive for Covid-19, it is now time he steps in for the other Aston Martin driver.
Whilst it is good to see Nico back on the grid, albeit temporarily, best wishes go out to Seb who is a fan favourite, particularly over recent years. He will be sure to come back stronger, perhaps in time for the second round at the end of next week.
