Max Verstappen has signed a huge new contract with Red Bull, months after his World Championship win in December of last year. The new deal will see him take home an estimated £40million-a-year.
The Dutch driver, still only 24 years old, became the fourth youngest F1 champion ever, following his win in Abu Dhabi. The driver who will be racing in the Number #1 car this coming season, will now be one of the highest earners in the sport, second only to Lewis Hamilton’s deal I with Mercedes.
Having already taken part in pre-season testing in Barcelona last week, which took place in Barcelona last week, the improved deal is said to have been verbally agreed behind the scenes, following one of the sessions.
The new deal will see Verstappen stay at Red Bull for at least a further 6 years, and it is set to be announced officially by the team by the end of the week.
Verstappen will effectively double his money with the new deal. It will also see him become the second highest paid raving driver, in the sport’s history.
The Dutchman reportedly visited the team’s factory headquarters in Milton Keynes earlier today, to complete the deal in person. He has already publically stated that he wanted to remain with the team, proclaiming on team radio that he wanted to “do this” with the Constructor, for the rest of his career. I, for one, would be every surprised if this deal doesn’t get boosted further, within the next few years. It would also be a surprise if Max doesn’t stay in the sport, beyond the duration of this deal.
