Post2Post Reports Predicts – Gameweek 5 of the 2021 Premier League Season

By Joe Murphy

Can Liverpool continue their impressive start to the season against Crystal Palace this weekend?

After scoring a reasonable 14 points in the previous game week for Post2Post Reports, it is that time again to look ahead to this weekend’s fixtures in the Premier League. We start on Friday night with a scrap between sides in the bottom five and head right through until Sunday when Spurs host Chelsea in a mouth watering prospect. With Champions League and Europa League fixtures commencing this week, we got yet more insight into some of these teams may be about, as we move through the weeks. This week, P2P goes head to head with Peru residing, Chelsea supporter, Gareth. With the league remaining incredibly tight at this stage, let’s take a look at who will climb the table and who may fall…

An interesting late afternoon Friday match here, both teams looking for their first win of the season. I’m hoping Patty Bamford can put in a big effort (for my Fantasy Squad) and therefore, even though at St. James’ Park, my prediction is as follows.

Newcastle 1-2 Leeds

Saturday morning kicks off with two teams who have both not shown much so far in terms of goal scoring power and yet both also have been quite good defensively. I should predict a low scoring draw here but instead, I’m opting for a slight Wolves advantage.

Wolves 1-0 Brentford

Will Aubameyang score again at Turf Moor?

Arsenal had been appalling up until their first goal and first win of the season in a Scrappy 1-0 win over Norwich. As much as I had been enjoying their demise, the reality is that they should be able to climb into the mid-table range quite soon, which is where they belong.

Burnley 0-2 Arsenal

Can Palace conjure up another surprise?

Ok, so Palace were the first team this season to take points off Tottenham. What does that tell us here? Not much. An easy win for Liverpool here at Anfield.

Liverpool 3-0 Crystal Palace

City’s last three results have all ended 5-0 in their favour. Scary, right? Well… Southampton can be dangerous at times and Pep’s squad may be feeling the effects of their midweek Champion’s League contest. Southampton have been winning single points a lot recently but you’d be silly to think they win even one this week.

Manchester City 3-1 Southampton

A match in which two newly promoted teams both will understand the importance of here. Essentially it seems to be an early relegation six-pointer at Carrow Road. I’m going to base my prediction on how these two fared against each other last season in the Championship.

Norwich 0-1 Watford

Villa at their Park. Everton equal leaders on points going into this Match Week. A tough one to pick here, right? Wrong. Rafa’s side have been playing really well and I expect that to continue on Sunday.

Aston Villa 1-3 Everton

Brighton have won three of the past four matches. What a start for the Seagulls! On the flip side, Leicester has won the matches they were expected to, but didn’t give their supporters much inspiration in their efforts against the Hammers and City. Leicester’s powerful attack will come to the forefront soon though and it may just be this wek.

Leicester 2-0 Brighton and Hove Albion

Will Manchester United bounce back, after midweek disappointment v Young Boys?

So Ronaldo was going to propel Man Utd back into the upper echelon of world football once again. That was all I heard from their fans after his Old Trafford debut, and yet all the memes that came out of Bern this week tell a different story. The game is at the Olympic Stadium which I felt would favour the Hammers obviously, but their best scoring threat in Michail Antonio was yellow-carded twice last weekend. That’s a big hit to their chances.

West Ham 0-2 Manchester United

The match of the round! A huge London Derby at Tottenham Stadium. These two have a history of close, exciting matches and one could expect that to be the case here as well considering the wealth of attacking talent for both teams. Chelsea however are one of the best football squads in the world right now after the addition of the imposing Lukaku who has already shown why he was brought in. This, combined with manager Thomas Tuchel’s irrepressive guidance and the stifling defensive midfield mastery of N’golo Kanté, Chelsea should come out on top here.

Tottenham 1-2 Chelsea

P2P predictions…

P2P – Newcastle United 1 v 1 Leeds United
P2P – Wolves 1 v 0 Brentford
P2P – Burnley 1 v 2 Arsenal
P2P – Liverpool 4 v 0 Crystal Palace
P2P – Manchester City 3 v 1 Southampton
P2P – Norwich City 1 v 1 Watford
P2P – Aston Villa 2 v 2 Everton
P2P – Brighton 1 v 1 Leicester City
P2P – West Ham United 2 v 3 Manchester United
P2P – Spurs 0 v 3 Chelsea
